When the world’s game meets New York—one of the most vibrant, sports-loving cities—something extraordinary happens.

Take S.S.T., a unique women’s soccer team founded in 1976. Not every team has a famous designer as its founder and coach, or a top model like Janet Dailey as its goalkeeper. The roster also included a former Haitian national team player and women who once thought a “striker” was someone at a singles bar, not a soccer field.

S.S.T. reflected soccer’s growth in the U.S. and its ongoing evolution. Years before creating the team, Greek-born designer John Stavros coached at New York’s Hunter College. His lifelong passion for soccer turned S.S.T.—short for Stavros’ Soccer Team—from a dream into reality.

Women of Soccer honors and remembers this iconic team, a true pioneer in the sport.
